Alicia's Homeschool Excursion
With over 200 hands-on, interactive science exhibits and fantastic spectacular science shows daily, Questacon in Canberra is a great homeschool excursion destination.
'Mini Q', an exhibition at Questacon, is designed for the interactive participation of children ages 0-6 years. In February Alicia attended Mini Q, her first homeschool excursion. Alicia enjoyed all the sensory displays, activities, and being surrounded by the laughter and excitement of children sharing this colourful and busy environment.
One of Alicia's favourite exhibits was the 'water play' area in which the children could operate water jets, waterwheels - experiencing the power and also the serenity of water. A section of water play has been constructed for babies and infants. They can enjoy small water fountains while seated in the specially designed safety chairs.
Alicia participated in 'role play' where children can dress up as a vet. Plush toy animals take the part of sick animals. The surgery also has an X-ray viewer and other make-believe equipment in relation to vet science.
Alicia loved watching and listening to the four animatronic dinosaurs in Questacon's foyer and was fascinated at their size.
Alicia was given a helping hand in the 'Strike a Chord' exhibition. Alicia laughed and giggled in repsonse to the all the different sounds made by interacting with different instruments.
Alicia was given the opportunity to view the workshop where maintenance and development work is performed by Questacon's talented staff. Alicia watched a levitation demonstration being developed for the Shell Science Circus, a Questacon 'Outreach Program' that travels all over Australia.
