NSW Junior Robotics Competition

On the 22nd August, at the Powerhouse Museum, a group of homeschoolers who call themselves the Robowhizards F.C. won 2nd place in the NSW Robocup Junior robotics competition!
The team members were: Quinn, Gabrielt, Alex, Scott, and Luke. They chose to compete in the Robocup Soccer which involves building and programing two robots to play soccer against other teams. The boys built a goal keeper and a striker using lego platforms, infrared light sensors, touch sensors, and an electronic compass. They used Robolab to program their robots (not remote controlled) to search and manoeuvere an infrared ball into their opponents goal.
On the 21st August, during the qualifying rounds, they won all four of their games, and on the 22nd during the knockout rounds they won all their matches and made it to the final, but they were finally defeated and claimed 2nd place which was $300 worth of Education Experience products. 33 teams competed. This was quite an achievement especially considering this was their first year competing. The Robowhizards will travel to Brisbane for the National championships on 6th and 7th September.
