'Velvet on Kirra'
This receipe is great for breaky, lunch, a light dinner in summer when you sometimes do not have a appetite or just a in between snack. It is also great for losing a few pounds for us mums who may not get much time to exercise but love something cool and sweet. Its a healthy alternative to ice-cream or milkshakes. And is just the thing for those of you who are or who have little ones who are allergic to dairy or get congested from dairy.
You can alter the how much ice and or frozen banana you use and this determines if it will be a smoothy or a ice-cream. (This is the amount I use for 3 children and myself, lesson the amount of milk for less people)
The name I created for this yummy smoothy 'Velvet on Kirra' is from it tasting and going down like velvet (smooth but with texture), I would sit after having a early morning surf at Kirra on the Gold coast years ago and enjoy my creation for a energizing but light breaky at home. It hits the spot still to this day, and now for my little ocean babys.
Get your blender and throw in :
- A 1/2 cup of ice (less for thin consistency or more for thicker consistency)
- 600-700 ml of one of the following milks - soy, rice or almond.
- 1 frozen banana ( peel your lightly spotted bananas, chop into four peices and throw in a sealable little plastic bag in the freezer)
- 1 teaspoon of honey (onlyif you have a sweet tooth)
- 1 tablespoon of carob powder ( only if you like chocolate taste)
- 1 tablespoon of LSA (crushed linseed, sunflower and almond nuts, gives you your essential fatty oils)
- 1 scoop of protein powder ( food for muscle) Leave out if you dont want protein.
*Almond milk is cheap ,easy and quick to make - handful of almonds pop in boiling water for 3 min, take out pop off acidic skins and blend the white nut with cooled water! For organization make a jug full and keep in fridge for the next smoothy or cereal etc. KEEP HOT WATER AWAY FROM CHILDREN!
* I purchase LSA nuts from Woolworths or health shops its quite cheap.
* REMEMBER ITS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW YOUR AND YOUR CHILDRENS ALLERGIES. MY CHILD GETS A ITCHY THROAT FROM THE CAROB AND SO WE JUST LEAVE THAT OUT. IT STILL TASTES DELICIOUS.
And thats it!!!
You can play with this as much as your creativity and taste buds allow you too. You can add yogurt, rasins whatever you fancy....
HAVE FUN WITH THEIR TASTE BUDS AND THEIR HEALTH AT THE SAME TIME.
'VELVET ON KIRRA' HAS BEEN SHARED BY 'OUR WATER BABYS' Burleigh heads.
