The Leaf Skeleton
by Abby, 5

Today two sisters named Imogen and Abby went to play on their favourite tree stump.  Sometimes that stump was a camel; sometimes it was a reindeer.  This day, however, the stump was covered in black ants.  The ants were on the stump because the ground was soggy from many days of rain.

Wandering away from their tree stump, Abby saw a hole in the ground.  The sisters peered into that hole and saw a delicate leaf skeleton.  Right near that skeleton there was a huntsman spider.  He seemed to be sleeping.  Abby took the leaf skeleton away quietly so that she didn't disturb the sleeping spider.  She gave the leaf skeleton to Imogen who had a really close look at it.  Then, Abby took her fragile discovery inside to show her Mum, who said it could be mounted on black paper and hung on a wall.  Abby was very proud to have found such a precious treasure.
